Turtle Island Native Network Wins Prestigious Award

March 20, 1999

Penticton, British Columbia - At the Aboriginal Media Arts Awards, the 1999 Multimedia Award was presented to Turtle Island Native Network, Canada's Aboriginal news and information network.

The award for best multimedia for a web site was presented by the Indigenous Arts Service Organization (IASO) in partnership with ULLUS Collective (En'owkin Centre), located in Penticton, British Columbia.

Commenting on the importance of these awards, Tehaliwaskenhas-Bob Kennedy a member of the Oneida Nation said, "In a world where there are so many reasons we might focus on the wrongs and negatives, it also is real that there are so many wonderful and positive things that Aboriginal people are involved in these days, and it is so important we celebrate these successes." Turtle Island Native Network helps you to explore our Aboriginal world and all its features.

Kennedy, the publisher of the news and information service went on to say, "I was overwhelmed to learn that Turtle Island Native Network has been recognised as Multimedia Award winner.

His reaction when told he won the award?"Wow!" I did a dance, and then sister and I celebrated by thanking the Creator, the parents, grandparents and the ancestors who watch over us and guide us."

"It is for them, and it is for you and all those gathered with you, that I have dedicated Turtle Island Native Network-Canada's Aboriginal news and information network", he said in expressing his gratitude to the Indigenous Arts Service Organization and Ullus Collective (En'owkin Centre).

He then invited everyone to come and visit often.
